we expected trouble

We went there,

thinking we knew what we would find.

The lines on the highway solidly leading us onward,

never breaking, shouting “This way! Don’t veer off track!”

We expected hills and valleys,

and thought that would be the trouble.

That life’s struggles and sadness would drag us down,

but we found the monotony to be much more malicious.
